Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is located about 50 minutes south of Anchorage. They have a great collection of local animals. Most of the animals arrived here because they were orphaned at a young age or were wounded.

Is there anything cuter than a baby??? These are elk.

Wow! I love antlers. Especially furry ones. These are so cool and soooo close.

Elk Van Gogh?

Bookends...

What will these grow up to be??? They look like baby horses without tails.
Here is the teenage brother.

Now this is Alaska! Moose wandering around with mountains in the background! Those are some really long legs! Good for deep snow.

You are a beauty.....

Thanks for showing off for me! Do you think he knows how I feel about antlers?

Bet you know what this guy is??
These are brown bears....they have longer claws than black bears and can be 10 feet tall and 1200-1600 lbs.

Also known as Kodiak bears in Alaska.

These are youngsters and having quite a good time playing.

The creek is fun...

Being wet is fun...

We thought it was fun too!

White tail deer having a nap in the shade.

Musk ox only live in Alaska. Their under coat is called qiviut and is softer than cashmere.

Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen....(aka caribou when in the wild)

This was the cutest in a gaggle of about 20.....They were on the move.

What's that waaaaaay up in the tree??

It's the black bear. Maybe he's coming down.

Nope. Just hanging around napping.
