Greece

We flew in on Turkish Airlines and connected to Thessaloniki.  Our first stop here is The river where legend is that Lydia was baptized.

Next stop is Philippi.  Paul spent time in Philippi.  Here we saw ruins of the city including a theater, a church, and a possible prison site.
Paul was improsoned in Philppi.  It is speculated that his cell may have been similar to this site found there.

Next stop is Cornith.  Corinth sits on an isthmus with ports on both sides.  In earlier times ships would have been unloaded in the eastern harbor, towed across the isthmus on a track and then put back in the water on the western side. This avoided the time and the danger of sailing all the way around the Peloponnese peninsula.  Late in the 19 century, they built a canal.

In Acts 18 we read that Paul was in Corinth for a year and a half.  He was brought before the Proconsul, Gallio at the place of judgement.  There would have been a judgement seat or a "Bema" there.  In the ruins of Corinth, we
Have found a bema.  Possibly the seat before which Paul stood.

High above the ancient city of Corinth is the Acco Corinth.  It is a fortress.

In Acts 17, Paul goes to Athens and speaks to the Areopagus (which means Mars Hill).  Here we are standing on Mars Hill with the Acropolis in the background.

The Acropolis is a complex of temples on a huge hill at the edge of Athens.  The Parthenon, the temple of Athena is the largest and is under reconstruction.

Next we are on to Turkey.
